Q. WHAT IS A CHIROPRACTOR?
A. Chiropractors predominantly treat problematic areas of the spine which have negatively impacted on the proper performance of the nervous system causing pain and impaired mobility. By gently adjusting the spine, proper function is achieved with the aim of relieving pressure on the surrounding muscles and joints, promoting core strength, reducing pain and restoring optimal mobility.
Q. What is physiotherapy and how can it benefit me?
A. Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that focuses on optimising movement and function. Our skilled physiotherapist utilises a range of techniques such as therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, and targeted rehabilitation programs to address various musculoskeletal conditions, promote recovery from injuries, and improve overall physical well-being. Physiotherapy can benefit individuals of all ages and help with pain management, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and enhancing physical performance.
Q. What is osteopathy?
A. Osteopathy is a holistic healthcare approach that emphasises the interrelation between the musculoskeletal system, nervous system, and overall health. Our osteopath uses hands-on techniques to assess and treat the body as a whole, aiming to restore balance, alleviate pain, and enhance the body’s self-healing mechanisms.
Q. WHAT TYPES OF PROBLEMS CAN A CHIROPRACTOR ASSIST WITH?
A. Spinal issues can result in a wide variety of physical problems including back pain, neck pain, migraines, nerve pain, sciatica, muscle and joint problems and issues with overall strength and balance. At Brisbane Chiropractic, we perform a careful analysis of your issues to diagnose their underlying cause before recommending the most appropriate treatment to deliver maximum benefits.
Q. I DON’T HAVE SPECIFIC PAIN BUT AM CONSIDERING SEEING A CHIROPRACTOR TO HELP ME FEEL HEALTHIER IN GENERAL, CAN YOU HELP?
A. Yes, many patients rely on chiropractic treatment not for pain relief but because, following treatment, they experience a great many benefits to their overall health and wellbeing. Chiropractic treatment can help you to stand taller and feel stronger for longer.
Q. I’M NOT SURE WHETHER I NEED A CHIROPRACTOR OR A DIFFERENT HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL, WHAT SHOULD I DO?
A. Some patients experience confusion surrounding when to see a Chiropractor rather than a Physiotherapist, Podiatrist or other health care professional. At Brisbane Chiropractic, we’re more than happy to assess your individual concerns and offer advice on the best treatment approach. If we believe your condition warrants treatment by a different health care professional, then we’ll always make the appropriate recommendation to ensure you receive the treatment best suited to you. For example, if you have a serious knee or shoulder injury requiring extensive rehabilitation and lengthy soft tissue work, you may require treatment from a Physiotherapist and/or Remedial Massage Therapist. But if on the other hand your muscular problems arise from issues in the joints and the nerves that control them, then chiropractic treatment could greatly assist you. In some cases, both physiotherapy and chiropractic therapy are used to deliver optimal outcomes. In these instances, Brisbane Chiropractic provides treatment in conjunction with a patient’s Physio, Massage Therapist or Personal Trainer and ensures all parties are kept updated on therapies used and treatment responses.
Q. I’VE NEVER SEEN A CHIROPRACTOR BEFORE AND I’M CONCERNED THE TREATMENT WILL HURT OR BE TOO SEVERE. WHAT DOES YOUR TREATMENT INVOLVE?
A. For some people, considering visiting a Chiropractor evokes trepidation due to expectations of painful, severe and bone-crunching treatments. Whilst it’s true that Chiropractors specialise in spinal manipulation, the way in which this is performed varies greatly depending on each patient’s individual condition and personal preference. At Brisbane Chiropractic, we understand that when you are experiencing ongoing pain, you may feel fearful about seeking new treatment. We pride ourselves on our gentle, caring approach and ability to tailor our treatment specifically to the needs of each individual patient. For some, this may include manipulation where a ‘clicking’ sound is heard, but for others, it may consist of more gentle stretching, exercise prescription or dry needling.
Q. How can massage therapy benefit me and what types of massage do you offer?
A. Massage therapy is a therapeutic approach that involves the manipulation of soft tissues to promote relaxation, alleviate muscle tension, improve circulation, and reduce pain. At Brisbane Chiropractic, our skilled massage therapists are trained in various techniques such as myofascial therapy, orthopaedic massage, lymphatic drainage, and oncology massage therapy. These techniques can target specific areas of the body, address musculoskeletal issues, support injury recovery, and provide a soothing experience for overall well-being.
Q. Can I combine chiropractic, physiotherapy, osteopathy, and massage therapy for a comprehensive treatment plan?
A. Absolutely! We believe in a multidisciplinary approach to healthcare, and our team of practitioners can work together to provide you with a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. By combining these modalities, we can address various aspects of your health, promote optimal recovery, and support your overall well-being. Our practitioners will collaborate to ensure seamless coordination and provide you with the most effective and personalised care possible.
Q. I REALLY NEED TO COME IN FOR TREATMENT, BUT I HAVE VERY LIMITED TIME, HOW FLEXIBLE ARE YOUR APPOINTMENTS?
A. Brisbane Chiropractic caters to busy people living and working around the Cannon Hill, Morningside, Brisbane Southside and surrounding areas. We understand that life can be hectic and also unpredictable which is why we allow our patients to make last minute changes to their booking times without incurring any additional charges. We perform highly efficient adjustments in as little as ten minutes for returning patients allowing you to get in and out as quickly as possible.
Q. HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
A. At Brisbane Chiropractic, our aim is to help our patients achieve optimal strength, mobility and comfort in as few sessions as possible. At your initial consultation, we will carefully assess your condition and provide a realistic prognosis of how you can achieve and maintain maximum results. Treatment duration will depend on your individual condition and will usually include stretching and strength building exercises for you to work on at home.
Q. DO YOU BULK BILL IF I HAVE A CARE PLAN FROM MY GP?
A. Yes, for all patients on a GP referred Chiropractic care plan, we offer bulk billing with no out of pocket expenses. In addition, we accept Department of Veterans’ Affairs card holders. We are also able to process private health fund claims immediately at the time of payment.
Q. Are these services covered by private health insurance or Medicare?
A. Private health insurance coverage for chiropractic, physiotherapy, osteopathy, and massage therapy varies depending on your specific policy. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to determine the extent of coverage you may be eligible for. Additionally, chiropractic, physiotherapy and osteopathy services can be covered under Medicare if you have a valid Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan from your general practitioner. Our friendly staff can assist you in processing private health fund claims at the time of payment to make the process as convenient as possible.
Q. I’M A REFERRING GP, CAN I BE ASSURED THAT YOU WILL KEEP ME UPDATED ON THE TREATMENT AND PROGRESS OF MY PATIENT?
A. Yes, Brisbane Chiropractic employs the use of ‘Medical Objects’ to ensure all our referring GP’s and other health professionals are kept fully informed regarding the treatment of their patients. As an evidence-based chiropractic practice, we are committed to maintaining detailed reporting on each patient’s treatment progress and sharing this information with each patient’s medical team as required.
